Alan Butler Obituary

Alan C. Butler, 83, peacefully passed away at home on Friday, July 18, 2014, after a brief illness. He was surrounded by his family.

Alan was born in Taunton, the son of the late Alfred and Ethel (Brackett) Butler. After attending Middleborough High School, he was drafted into the Armed Forces. He was stationed in Davisville, RI for two years with the Reserves. He then went on to serve two years in the Navy from 1953 to 1955 with the Mobile Construction Brigade #7 where he was stationed in North Africa and Cuba before receiving an honorable discharge.

He worked as a truck driver for Thomas Brothers, J.F. White, and Campanella before going into business for himself. For thirty years, he ran tractors and screened loam at his 70 acre residence on Susan's Lane, where he lived for 45 years in the house he built for his family. He continued working until recently.

Alan leaves behind two daughters, Barbara Vasseur and her husband Mark of Lakeville, Susan Sylvia and her husband Ronald of East Freetown, and two sons Richard Butler and his wife Jean of Florida, and the late Roni Butler of East Freetown. He is survived by one sister, Barbara M. Hadfield of Grand Ledge, MI, one Uncle, Kenneth Butler of Lakeville, and his beloved pet, Abby.

Alan was grandfather to eleven children, and great grandfather to thirteen children and counting. Alan adored his great grandchildren, and loved buying them new clothes and toy dump trucks.

His family will be holding an open house on Sunday, July 27, 2014, from noon to 4 pm at his home on Susan Lane in Lakeville for all those who would like to reflect on his life.
