Alan Sweet Obituary

Alan D. Sweet, age 73, of New Bedford, MA. passed away Monday, November 22, 2021 at home after a brief illness. Born in New Bedford, MA., he was the son of the late Alan V. Sweet and the late Mazelle K. Sweet.
Alan is survived by his three children. Joshua Graber of San Rafael, CA., Jeremy Sweet of Swansa, MA., and Kathryn Sweet of East Freetown, MA. He is also survived by two sisters, Jacqueline Sweet of Dartmouth, MA., Carolyn Sweet of Rochester, MA., and his former wife Myra E. Sweet of East Freetown, MA. Alan was the proud grandfather of six. Avery Sweet, Landon Sweet, Elsy Costa, Jonah Costa, Rowan Graber and James Graber.
In his early years, he was a member of the Whaling City Drum and Bugle Corps. He graduated from New Bedford High School and went on to graduate from Southeastern Massachusetts University (now UMASS Dartmouth.) He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam war era.
He worked for over 40 years for Southcoast Hospitals Group first as a Unit Manager and then retired as the purchasing department manager. Past retirement he worked part time as a courier for Southcoast.
Alan was an avid New England Patriots fan and Red Sox fan. He was a dedicated golfer and was extremely artistically talented and enjoyed painting and drawing. Alan’s family meant everything to him. Alan will be remembered as a kind, funny and generous man always there to lend a helping hand.
