Alfred Roland Durand, 90, died Friday, October 14, 2016, in New Bedford, MA after a long illness. He was predeceased by Marie M. Durand, his wife of 66 years. He was born in Central Falls, RI to the late Arsene and Alma (Pigeon) Durand and was one of five children.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the United States Navy between 1944 and 1946. Following his service to our country, he was employed as an oil burner technician for Park Oil Company in New Bedford, MA. After his retirement, he was employed as a part-time maintenance worker at Tabor Academy in Marion, MA, until moving to Florida with his wife. He returned to the New Bedford area upon her death in 2015.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by three siblings: Mary, Raymond and Normand. Survivors include one brother, Roland Durand, of Culver City, CA; two children: Debra Richard and her husband David of Fairhaven and Michael Durand and his wife Lynn of E. Freetown; four grandchildren: Kathryn Richard, Stephen Richard, Matthew Durand and Olivia Durand; three great-granddaughters, and several nephews and nieces.
Calling hours are omitted. The family will receive visitors at St. John Neumann Church, E. Freetown, at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 22, 2016, followed by a funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be private.
