Alice M. (Joseph) Smith

Alice M. Smith 86, of North Dartmouth passed away on Saturday Sept. 7, 2019 at the Oaks in New Bedford, Ma.

Born in New Bedford, Ma she was the daughter of the late Ira S. Joseph and the late Aletha Rosetta (Drayton) Joseph.

Alice is survived by her daughters; Gail Smith of Dartmouth and Jeanine Cannon of Randolph, NJ.

Alice is also survived by her siblings; Harrison Joseph and his wife Arniece of New Bedford, Charles Joseph of California, and Phyllis Bulgar also of New Bedford. Alice was predeceased by her other siblings; the late Ira S. Joseph and the late Cleone Mendez Greene. Alice was the very proud grandmother of her four grandchildren; Aleksander Brown, Madison Cannon, Elijah Cannon and Marli Cannon.

An avid believer in teachers, reading and education, she herself an early Education Professional, who owned her own center, The Greater New Bedford Infant and Toddler Preschool. Alice also enjoyed shopping, nature, trees, and art and she loved geneology, where she could learn of her African American roots.

She was very fond of animals and was predeceased by her dog, Max, and she had a special place in her heart for a dog named Oliver.
