Armand Turgeon Obituary
Armand ( PeeWee ) Turgeon passed away on Wednesday September 13, 2017 after a period of decling health.
He was the loving husband of 49 years of Marie Turgeon and son of Alfred J. Turgeon and Marie Louise Bouthillier, brother of the late Alfred, Joseph ( Nap ), Arthur, David, Louise Lagesse, Jeanne Correia, Yvette Guilbeault and Rita Morrow. He is survived by several nieces and nephews.
In his 20's he was doing acrobat hand-to-hand routine with partner at YMCA, reaching a then world record of 39 handstand push-ups and also won the skin diver championship in an all New England competition in 1955.
Armand was a avid chess player and he was also proud of having bowled a perfect 300 game.
He was one of the founding members of George's Gym and set National Masters New England record for his age group 70-74 age bracket and weight division in two weightlifting catagories at National Championships in Colorado Springs, Colorado, also winning several State and New England Championships as well as Regional and Nationals into his 70's. He was also listed as an International Weightlifting judge.
He was formerly employed by New Bedford School Department in maintenance .
According to his wishes he was cremated. A Mass of Rememberance will be held, on Saturday, September 30, at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 4256 Acushnet Avenue, New Bedford, Ma. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
