Barbara A (Tavares) Alves

Barbara (Tavares) Alves, 85 of East Freetown passed away on Wednesday, December 4th, 2025 at Beth Israel Hospital after a brief illness.

She was born in New Bedford. Daughter of Priscilla DaCosta and John Tavares. She graduated from NB Voke in 1958. She lived in Fairhaven, Fall River and most recently in East Freetown.

She was retired from Safety Insurance and was a founding member of the musical group, Barbara Scott & Company.

Survivors include her daughters, Pamela Cardin and her Husband, Cliff Cardin of East Freetown, Toni Alves of East Freetown, and a stepbrother, Douglas DaCosta of New Bedford. She is preceded in death by her sister, Kathleen Medeiros and her daughter, Lynn Alves. She had five grandchildren; Nicholas Alves, Jessica Cardin, Samantha Cardin, Sarah Chauvin and Jeffrey Ramsden. She had seven great grandchildren.

Per her request, no funeral or wake will be held. A private Celebration of Life will be held.
