David Alden York, 82, of Acushnet, MA passed away after a long battle with Kidney disease surrounded by his family on Tuesday, July 11, 2023. He was the son of the late Rexford and Edna York.
He is survived by his loving wife Marilyn (Rock) York married almost 60 years; Sister Norma E. York, son David W. York and his wife Christine: daughter Wendi A Charbonneau and her husband Matthew. Five grandchildren Brett Charbonneau and his wife Aly, Erin (York) Dessert and her husband Joshua, Logan Charbonneau, Bryan York, and Kory Charbonneau. One great grandson Alden J. Charbonneau. Brother-in-law Richard E Rock and several nieces and nephews.
He was employed at D.W. White Construction where he was a talented Operating Engineer and a member of Local 4 for 39 years until his retirement in 2002. His childhood years were spent on Sconticut Neck in Fairhaven before moving back to his family’s farm in Acushnet. Known by many as Yorkie, David kept active with his many hobbies which included boating, clam bakes, tractor pulls, and farming. His family benefited greatly from his innovative and talented mechanical knowledge of vintage tractors. Grandpa enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and spending winters in Ft. Myers Beach Florida. He will be greatly missed by the many friends he touched over his lifetime.
Private graveside service for immediate family at Riverside Cemetery in Fairhaven. A celebration of life luncheon will be held at the Arch at the Meadow at 332 Mendell Road, Rochester on Saturday August 12, 2023 at 2:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
