Dexter R. Cornell

Dexter R. Cornell 73, of East Freetown passed away on Friday July 29, 2016 after a long illness, at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford.

He was the beloved husband of 54 years to Carol Ann (Ferreira) Cornell,  He was her heart and soul, and the love of her life.

Born in East Freetown, he was the son of the late Joseph B. Cornell and Olive Jenny (Pittsley) Cornell. Dexter was the loving father of his children, his daughters; Wendy C. Tomkiewicz and her husband Frank of CT, Candy A. Loureiro of Freetown and her fiance Tony Alfonso, and the late Kathy Cornell. Dexter was predeceased by his siblings;  his brothers, the late Joe, Charlie and Robert Cornell and sisters; Jenny, Genevia, Emily, Beatrice and Mary. Dexter is survived by two sisters; Alberta Steblin of New Bedford and Diana Poulin of Acushnet. He was also the very proud grandfather of his 9 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Dexter spent his whole life in Freetown and he worked for many years as a Machinist for Chamberlain's. Dexter loved to go hunting and fishing. He enjoyed the Monster Trucks, Wrestling and Antique cars. He will be dearly missed.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his visitation on Wed. Aug.3, 2016 from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm at the South Coast Chapel Mortuary, 158 Middleboro Rd (Rt.18) East Freetown, Ma 021717 with funeral on Thurs. Aug 4, 2016 at 10:00 am with procession to burial in Braley Cemetery in Freetown.
