Donald Messier Obituary

Donald Messier 90, of East Freetown passed away on Monday November 15, 2021 at Brandon Woods in Dartmouth, after a long period of failing health.

He was the beloved husband of the late Elizabeth Jane (Warr) Messier.

Born in Acushnet, Ma he was the son of the late Romeo Messier and the late Lillian (Hughes) Messier.

Donald is survived by his children; Mary Elizabeth LaFrance and her husband Paul of New Bedford, Karen Kirschner and her husband David of Middleboro. Donald is also survived by his sister Janet Mello of Acushnet and his brother Romeo Messier and his wife Lucille of East Freetown.  He was predeceased by his sister the late Claire Dean. Donald was also the proud grandfather of his 4 grandchildren; Jeremy LaFrance, Amy Valente, Devan Kirschner and Zachary Kirschner. He also has 5 great grandchildren; Kaileigh Blessing, Elijah LaFrance, Avery Blessing, Grayson Valente and Ashton Valente.

Donald served his Country proudly and was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War. He worked for years as a foreman in the machine shop for Chamberlain Manufacturing. Donald was a very hard worker and provider, he always had 2 jobs. He was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan, and he enjoyed watching the grankids play baseball and basketball and he attended every game, and Oh how he loved his grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Donald's Memorial Mass which will be on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at 11:00 am to be held at St. Neumann Church, 157 Middleboro Road, (RT 18) East Freetown, Ma with Inurnment to follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Kempton Street, New Bedford, Ma.
