On Monday, May 31, 2021, Donald Westgate Sr., loving husband and father of five, passed away at his home in Acushnet, Ma at the age of 91.
Donald was born on March 17, 1930 in New Bedford, Ma to Clarence E. Westgate Jr. and Annie (Heap) Westgate. On October 12, 1951, he married the love of his life, Dorothy G. (Roderiques) Westgate. He was employed for 30 years with Continental Baking Company as an Auto Mechanic.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy, his five children Donald Westgate Jr. of Acushnet, Evelyn D. Jackson of Florida, Donna A. Tremblay of W. Wareham, John R. E. Westgate of Acushnet, and Bertha A. Barker of Missouri. He is also survived by his 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.
Donald enjoyed fishing, golfing, and woodworking. He most enjoyed the time he spent in Florida. At the age of 58, Donald was elected to Continental Baking Co.’s “No. 1 Club,” one of
the company’s highest honors for his consistent, superior performance. He was also honored for catching a 737 pound tuna, the largest in the history of the Vet’s 88 Fishing Club of Greater New Bedford.
A brief remembrance will be held on Saturday, June 5, 2021 from 2-4 p.m. at South Coast
Chapel Mortuary, 158 Middleboro Road (Rt 18) East Freetown, Ma 02717.
