Doreen Ann (England) Ostiguy, 77, passed peacefully and was called “home” on Saturday, November 20th, with the comfort of her family at her side.
Doreen was born on August 12, 1944 to Edward England of New Bedford and Marie (Gaudette) England from New Brunswick, Canada. She is the loving sister of Neil England, his wife Kathy and aunt to their 3 children.
Doreen received her BA in Social Sciences with a minor in philosophy from Stonehill College but she dedicated herself selflessly to her family. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Wilfred J. Ostiguy, Sr of New Bedford, and their 14 children: Gregory, Derrick, Matthew, Joseph, Arthur, John, Nicholas, Emily, Bethany, Wilfred Jr, Genevieve (McKeon), Olivia, Susanna, and Katherine. She is Mémère to 23 grandchildren and great-grandmother of 2.
She was the core of the family with a gravitational pull only she could emit, welcoming anyone and everyone in as family and wanting to feed them all. With the exception of her love of basking in the sun, she could never be still if there was something to be done. Rocking and swinging were her ways to relax. She could cook for an army with minimal ingredients, heal an array of ailments, make a penny seem like a pound, was a wealth of knowledge, the most patient of listeners, could “Pollyanna” any moment and did it all while singing and humming. In her later years, she extended her giving nature to her clients and colleagues of Coastline Elderly Services, working well past what was expected but loving her work to the very end. She is dearly missed by all who knew her, including her birds and squirrels who visited daily. Her strong faith and love in God has leant comfort and peace to all she leaves behind.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to Doreen's Memorial Mass, which will be held at St. John Neumann Church, 157 Middleboro Road (Rt.18) East Freetown, Ma 02717, on December 23, 2021 at 10:00 am.
