Doris Cabucio Obituary

Doris Catherine (Reddy) Cabucio, age 91, of Assonet, MA, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2025. Born on August 29, 1933, in Fall River, MA, she was the daughter of the late James Reddy and Arline (Evans) Reddy.

Doris was a proud graduate of Mt. Saint Mary’s Catholic Girls High School. In 1955, she married the love of her life, the late Walter I. Cabucio, with whom she shared 60 years of devotion, family, and faith.

A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Doris leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness. She is survived by her children: Stephen Cabucio of Lakeville; James Cabucio and his wife Anne of East Freetown; Walter Cabucio and his wife Tracey of Sugarland, TX; Helen Clarke and her husband Robert of East Freetown; and Matthew Cabucio and his wife Melissa of Acushnet. She was predeceased by her son, Karl Cabucio. Doris was the proud grandmother of 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, who lovingly knew her as “Grandma Dot.” She is also survived by her brother, Jack Reddy, and his wife Jane, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her two sisters, Helene Reddy and Marjorie Reddy.

Doris’s love of children extended beyond her own family. A beloved neighborhood mom, she cared for generations of children, providing warmth, guidance, and a listening ear. After she retired from this role, Doris spent many years volunteering in the activities department at Catholic Memorial Nursing Home, joyfully serving alongside her sister Helene. Her compassion and sense of community touched countless lives.

In her quiet moments, Doris enjoyed reading, listening to WSAR, and knitting. Her handcrafted afghans and mittens were more than hobbies—they were gifts from the heart. Over the last 23 years, many of her mittens found their way to homeless individuals and children throughout the Southcoast, distributed through the National Honor Society chapter at Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School. She also lovingly created hundreds of baby afghans for newborns of friends and family, spreading warmth and comfort to families all over the world.

Her family and friends will remember Doris for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love.

Her family is deeply grateful for the excellent and compassionate care Doris received from Hope Health Hospice & Palliative Care. Donations in lieu of flowers, may be made to Hope Health Hospice & Palliative Care, 1085 North Main St., Providence, RI 02904.

Funeral arrangements will be private.
