Edwin J. Lopes, Jr.

Edwin Lopes Jr. (Jock) 85, of East Freetown, MA passed away on Thursday October 10, 2024 surrounded by family.

He was the loving husband of Elaine (Costa) Lopes with whom he shared 63 years of marriage.

He also served 3 years with the Army in the late 1950’s. He also worked in construction before landing the job at Goodyear. Edwin (Jock) retired from Goodyear Rubber Company after 27 years of service and was the former owner of Ed Lopes Pallets, Inc. He was formerly a Police Officer in his early years with the Town of Freetown.

Edwin was the son of the late Edwin Lopes, Sr., and Jenny (Gonsalves) Lopes. He is predeceased by his son Jerry Lopes, his sister Elaine Lopes and brother Robert (Bobby) Lopes. Above all, Edwin loved his family. He always expressed “Family is not just an important thing, it’s everything”. His wish is that his family will continue to honor and respect the values that he has instilled into them; and that his family will pass the torch to their families from generation to generation.

Edwin is survived by his wife Elaine, his son Russell Lopes and wife Kecia of Virginia, his daughter Maureen (Lopes) Vega and husband Harry of Rhode Island and son Michael Lopes and wife Theresa of Massachusetts, his sister Sheila Lopes of Massachusetts and sister Sandra (Chipper) Lopes-Echevarria of Massachusetts. Edwin has 1 granddaughter (Shari) 5 grandsons (Marcus, Mikey, Jordan, Keone & Kamal 2 great granddaughters (Lianah and Nevaeh) and 6 great grandsons (James, Xavier, Jayden, Kyan, KJ and Cory).

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his Visitation to be held on Tuesday October 15, 2024 from 4pm to 7pm, at South Coast Chapel Mortuary, 158 Middleboro Road (Rt. 18) East Freetown, Ma 02717 and to his Funeral Service to be held on Wednesday October 16, 2024 at 10:30am at the New Life Pentecostal Church, 789 Main Street, Acushnet, Ma 02743. Those attending his Funeral Service are asked to go directly to the church. With his burial to follow the service in Acushnet Cemetery, 91 Main Street, Acushnet, Ma 02743
