Frank DeMello, Jr. of East Freetown passed away peacefully on December 6, 2015.
He was born in 1937 in New Bedford to the late, Frank Sr. and Estrella (Stella Macedo) DeMello.
He was the husband of Cynthia (Hyland) DeMello.
He was the former husband of the late Gilberte ( Jill )Parent DeMello.
Frank was a firefighter for the City of New Bedford retiring in 1998. Frank was formerly employed at Goodyear Tire and Rubber in the late 50's until 1972.
Frank earned an Associate's Degree in Fire Science from Bristol Community College.
He was an active member of the Army National Guard during the Korean War with the 212th Field Artillery Howitzer Battalion. Frank was called to active duty during the Cuban Missle Crisis in 1962 and was honorably discharged in 1963.
He loved to travel the world and enjoyed family time with his children and three granddaughters.
His sons are Frank Michael DeMello (wife Abigail) of Lakeville, David Alan DeMello (husband Mark Martin) of Vancouver, WA, and Jay DeLeon (wife Kyle) of Portsmouth, RI. His beautiful granddaughters are Courtney, Giuliana and Jacqueline. He is also survived by his loving sister, Gloria (DeMello) Gundersen (husband Johan) and a nephew and nieces and grandnieces.
In his honor, donations may be made to the New Bedford Salvation Army.
His funeral arrangements are private.
