Janice Marie (Vaz) Wells passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 21st, surrounded by her loving
family.
Born and raised in Taunton, MA, Janice later moved to Freetown where she raised a family creating a
home filled with love, joy, kindness and gratitude.
For the majority of her career, she worked as an administrative professional in various school systems,
but loved jobs that got her out with the public, especially when that involved face painting at children's
events.
Janice had many interests and hobbies. She could be found up to her eyeballs in glitter and paint making
Christmas decorations, elbow deep in the dirt gardening, or at Waterfire swing dancing the night away.
She was at peace by the water where you would find her walking the flats near Mayflower Beach in
Dennis for hours with her beloved dog, Callie. Her greatest joy was building sandcastles, playing in the
puddles left by the receding tide, and laughing with her children and then her grandchildren in this place
where she once did the same with her own mom and dad. Girls' nights and birthdays at "the cottage"
with her closest friends and family were filled with laughter, dancing, and talking the night away. Known
to many as Mama Wells, she was the life of the party and the light in every room she entered.
Janice will be remembered as a most devoted mother, steadfast friend, caring companion, amazing
sister, and absolute best Grammie/Nanie to her four sweet grandchildren that she loved so dearly, Ella,
Aidan, Aria, and Ayla. While she is no longer in our sight, she remains very much alive in the many
memories she helped create and the endless love she had for all she cared for.
Janice was the daughter of the late Joseph and Gilda (Rezendes) Vaz of Taunton. She is survived by her
loving son James Wells, his wife Kristen and their two children Ella and Aidan of Assonet, MA, loving
daughter Aubrey DeGroat, her husband Michael and their two children Aria and Ayla of East Freetown,
MA; devoted sister Judy Vaz and her partner Michael Masse of Centerville, MA; caring companion Kevin
Wells of Taunton, MA, as well as her devoted friends and extended family.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date to honor Janice and the beautiful legacy she has left. In
lieu of flowers, please treat a loved one to something special, create a memory, have some fun - it is the
best way to honor Janice, and it's what she would want. Keep her memory alive by smiling, laughing,
and of course, dancing.
