John Bielski, Sr. Obituary

John S. Bielski, 87, formerly of Acushnet, passed away peacefully at the Tremont Nursing Center in Wareham, on Friday, January 20, 2017.

He was the beloved husband of Arlene A. (Cardoza) Bielski for 66 years. John was the loving father of two children, John S. Bielski, Jr. and his wife, Diane Wood-Bielski, of Middleboro and Catherine R. Valentine and her husband, Robert, of Wareham. John was also the proud grandfather of Maeghan Bielski, Ian Bielski and Drew Bielski.

Born in New Bedford, John was the son of the late Joseph Bielski and Rozalia (Ponichtera) Bielski, both from Poland. John was one of fourteen siblings. He was predeceased by his brothers: Joseph Bielski, Richard Bielski, Peter Bielski, Stephen Bielski and Leonard Bielski, as well as sisters Marion Manning, Statia Pires, Bessie Pontes, Sophie Hall, Josephine Proulx, and Jenny Bielski. He is survived by his two sisters, Helen Avellar and Barbara Arsenault both of New Bedford.

John was a veteran and served his country in the United States Army. He was employed as a machinist for ten years at Acushnet Company and also at Pauldings for close to 40 years, both in New Bedford. When he was young, he enjoyed playing baseball and football. In later years, he enjoyed fishing, especially with his son. He was a man who was very detail oriented and enjoyed the intricacies of financial investment in the investment club he joined later in life. John also loved going out dancing and visiting different casinos with his wife and friends and family, as well as testing his luck with the lottery. John could fix anything and enjoyed puttering around in his basement and yard. He loved going out to dinner and was never one to turn down a good meal. One would never guess to look at his lean figure, his great passion for eating. However, what John loved most of all was spending time with his family.

His family would like to express their appreciation to the Tremont, who cared for him in his final years.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his visitation, at the South Coast Chapel Mortuary, 158 Middleboro Rd, East Freetown, MA 02717 on Thursday, January 26th from 9:00 am to10:00 am.
