NEW BEDFORD — John Viera, 83, died peacefully Friday, September 28, 2018 at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford, MA.
He is survived by his only child Catherine DeMello; grandchildren Eric and Jaime; sisters Beatrice, Hilda and Adaline along with several nieces, nephews and a great grandchild. John was predeceased by his wife Mary and two brothers Manuel and Adriano.
John was born on May 15, 1935 in New Bedford, MA and was a lifelong resident. He joined the Army in 1961 and served as an executive chef for a brief period. He met his wife Mary at a young age and got married. John worked hard and retired from Brodeur Machine Co. after over 30 years. His passion was travel and took many trips to Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket with his wife Mary. He will be remembered as a kind man who put others first. He will be missed by many.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 27, between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. at South Coast Chapel Mortuary, 158 Middleboro Road, East Freetown, MA. 02717
