ROCHESTER - Jon Raymond LaPointe, of Rochester, MA, died peacefully on December 29th at the age of 71, following a long illness.
Born in New Bedford, MA to Esteria (Hope) and Raymond LaPointe, Jon grew up in Rochester. He proudly served in the U.S. Coast Guard before founding Bedford Street Engine Service in Lakeville, MA. Jon loved spending time with family and friends, particularly around the campfire at Gypsyland. His children include Charlene Mello of Rochester, Lori Liston of Raynham, Jon LaPointe of Warwick, RI and Thomas Jon LaPointe. Jon’s ten grandchildren were his greatest source of joy. He is also survived by four siblings; Joan Dumford, Brian LaPointe , Nannette Castorina, and Michelle McClain.
Upon retirement, Jon moved to Summerdale, Alabama where he pursued his passion of restoring antique tractors. As a member of the South Alabama Antique Tractor and Engine Club he created a scholarship program for technical vocational students.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to: your own life. Take a vacation, have a party with the ones you love, hug your family and tell them how much you appreciated their presence in your life. If you wish, donate to your local homeless shelter or food pantry.
A gathering in celebration of Jon’s life will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at South Coast Chapel Mortuary, located at 158 Middleboro Road (Rt. 18) East Freetown, Ma 02717 from 9am -12 pm to which relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. www.southcoastchapel.com
