Lillian Poirier Obituary

Lillian A. (Machon) Poirier of East Freetown, Mass. peacefully passed away on October 10, 2019.

Formerly of New Bedford, Mass, Mrs. Poirier is the widow of Lucien George Poirier. She is survived by her four children: her daughter Vivian (York) Luckey and her husband Richard (Tony) of Wesley Chapel, FL, her son Donald Poirier and his wife Deborah of New Ipswich, NH, her daughter Pauline Fradet and her husband Carl of Naples, FL, and her son Arthur Poirier and his wife Donna of Acushnet, Ma.

She also is survived by six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren and by her longtime friend Charles Gray of East Freetown.

Lillian was a devoted mother and grandmother who cherished her family, her friends and her church. She was an active member of Our Lady of Fatima Church in New Bedford, MA and a woman of prayer. She received the Marian Medal from the diocese of Fall River in recognition of her devoted service by providing roses for the statue of Mary in the church for more than fifty years.

Mrs. Poirier retired as Head Cook at Apponequet High School. She was a past president of the Freetown VFW Ladies Auxiliary and participated in many VFW events and fundraisers through the years.
She was an active participant and member of the Freetown Council on Aging and loved playing cards and bingo and dancing and socializing with her friends. She was also an avid Red Sox
and Patriots fan and very astute and opinionated about politics and current affairs.

She was fiercely loyal to those she loved, and had an especially big heart for children. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.

Her Requiem Mass will be at Our Lady of Fatima Church,  4256 Acushnet Ave., New Bedford, MA  at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 19, 2019, followed by a reception at the Freetown VFW, 89 Middleboro Rd.,   East Freetown, MA.
