Maurice “Moe” F. St. Laurent
Passed away Sat. May 2 due to complications of the coronavirus. He was the beloved husband of Rita L. (Bertrand). They were married for 72 years.
Born in New Bedford on July 11, 1925. Moe was the son of the late Adhemar and Anna (Carreau). He graduated from Holy Family High School. He then served 4 years in the Navy on the USS Bennington as a water tender. He earned a Purple Heart.
He attended Franklin Tech and graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked at the Acushnet Co. for 35 years, retiring in 1985.
He received the Marian Medal for his dedicated service to the church. He served as Eucharistic Minister, enjoyed singing in the choir, and looked forward to helping out at the annual festival at St. John Neumann Parish, for as long as he was able. He loved gardening. In his earlier years, he enjoyed playing guitar. He played at several local restaurants with his brother in law Tony Bertrand and their friend Tony Pacheco. He learned how to paint using that talent to create the scenery for many musicals and variety shows as a member of the Apco Whites Club, a group sponsored by the Acushnet Co. He also loved photography and enjoyed developing his own pictures. He was always telling jokes and shared his many stories with anyone who would listen. His biggest joy was spending time with family, friends and those yet to become friends.
He survived by his daughter Rachelle Meredith and her husband Michael of Lynn, his son Marc St. Laurent, and his wife Deborah of East Freetown, his 5 beloved grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren as well as many many other relatives. Moe was predeceased by his brothers Roland and Gaston and his sisters Andrea(Cantin) and Rita.
Due to all the current health concerns, a celebration of his life will take place at a later time.
