Michael Bettencourt Obituary

Michael Bettencourt (Mike), 51, of East Taunton was reunited with his dad in heaven on Friday, March 14th, 2025. Born In Taunton, Mike lived in his childhood home until a few short months ago, when he purchased his dream home with Linda. Mike was educated in Taunton schools and a 1991 graduate of Bristol Plymouth Vocational High School. During his time at Bristol Plymouth, he met his lifelong best friend, Robert Rose.

Mike was the owner and operator of F. Bettencourt and Sons. He worked together with his dad Frank until Frank’s passing in 2018.  Mike remained the sole employee of the company, which he held great pride in. Mike was naturally talented in his work, whether he was land clearing or building beautiful rock retaining walls. The pride in all of his work was evident.

When Mike wasn’t working, he could often be seen in his favorite machine: his bobcat. He enjoyed helping anyone he could, whether he was plowing all the neighbor’s driveways or helping out with his friends at the farm. Mike was the guy to call, because he would always be there to lend a helping hand.

He enjoyed his morning coffees with the guys, camping, attending truck auctions, hanging out at the farm, playing cards, antique cars and tractors, and car racing. He had many great memories of racing with his friends Bobby Rose, Kenny Spencer and his brother Matt. Mike was content to sit and enjoy his home, yard and the animals.

Mike was happiest surrounded by friends and family, that is what Mike treasured most in life. If you were Mike’s friend, then you were his family. He was a true family man whose presence could never be replaced.

Michael was preceded in death by his father, Franklin Bettencourt, maternal grandparents, Roy and Roberta Peterson, and paternal grandparents, Franklin and Estelle Bettencourt.

Mike is survived by his beloved mother Kathleen Bettencourt, his forever love Linda Ricardo, his sister Tracy Dowd and her husband Daniel, his brother Matthew Bettencourt and his wife Vanessa, his niece and nephew, Julia Dowd and Bentley Dowd, who were his pride and joy, several pets, including his dog Bucky, cats Jackson, Leon, Pixie and Bella, and the latest additions, donkeys Taco and Belle, and his furry nephew Winston, along with several cousins, uncles, and many wonderful friends.

Donations can be made in Mike’s memory to the MSPCA.

Visiting hours will be Saturday, March 22nd from 4pm-8pm at South Coast Chapel Mortuary, 158 Middleboro Rd. in East Freetown, MA 02717. Burial will be private.
