Paul Russell, 69, passed away on July 26, 2023 with his wife by his side. He was born on April 21, 1954 in Fort Fairfield, Maine to Roy Russell and Doris (Lewis) Russell. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Margret (Desjardins) Russell.
Paul grew up on a potato farm, where he learned to work hard and do anything he could to help a farmer. This led him to a long, fulfilling career with the USDA, where he served farmers in Massachusetts and beyond.
Beyond farming, Paul loved staying busy. He loved working in his garden, blacksmithing, volunteering at the Freetown Historical Society, and lending a helping hand wherever one was needed. He loved - and was loved deeply - by his family. He impressed all who knew him with his wit, brilliance, compassion, and kind heart.
Paul is survived by his wife Margret and his children, Patrick and Deanna Russell of Sparks, Nevada; Kevin and Gina Russell of Carver, and Molly Russell of Fairhaven. He will be missed deeply by his 4 grandchildren, Olivia, CJ, Drew, and Gabe, who will miss having “Poopah” cheer for them at games and plays, and who will miss having their favorite playmate to order about. He is survived by his siblings Dick, Francis, Charlie, and Ruth. He is pre-deceased by his brother Danny.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 23 from 1-3pm ET at the Freetown Historical Society, 1 Slab Bridge Rd, Assonet, Ma 02702 Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
