Susan G. (Foster) Ashley

Susan Gibbs (Foster) Ashley, age 79, of East Freetown, MA passed away on April 7, 2026, surrounded by her loving family at her home on the farm.

Susan was born on January 3, 1947, in New Bedford, MA to the late Albert Foster Sr. and Priscilla (Gurney) Foster.

She married the love of her life, Stephen Edward Ashley, in 1967 and together they raised two children, Jonathan and Eliza.

Susan worked alongside her husband managing their cranberry farm in East Freetown which they purchased in 1980, and with her son as the office manager at Cliffstar Cranberry Receiving Station, East Freetown. She also worked as a floral arranger at the Fall Brook Shop and as a bank teller at the New Bedford Five and Dime.

She loved family gatherings, working in her flower gardens and keeping a beautiful home, spending time at their camp in the White Mountains of NH, travelling to Maine to visit her sister and family, riding with her husband on their Harley Davidson, and their winter trips to Siesta Keys, FL. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, whom she adored.

Above all else, Susan loved her family. She is survived by her husband Stephen, her son Jonathan and his wife Donna, her daughter Eliza and her husband Steve; her grandchildren Wyatt, Henry, Brody and Lilah Susan; her brother Albert Foster Jr. and his wife Nancy, her sister Jane Warren and her husband Tom, her brother David Foster, and her brother Mark Foster and his husband Chris.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at the South Coast Chapel Mortuary, 158 Middleboro Rd., East Freetown on April 16th from 4pm-7pm.

A private graveside service will follow on a later date.
