Glenda Carling Obituary

Glenda M. Carling, age 88, of East Freetown, MA, passed away on April 3, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was a beloved wife to the late Harold A. Carling, and mother to four children, including Lee Carling, married to Cynthia Carling, Karen Carling-Chudolij, married to George Chudolij, M.D., Scott Carling, married to Donna Carling, and Dana Carling, married to Robin Carling. She also leaves eight grandchildren, Ryan Carling, Nicholas Chudolij, Chelsea Gularek, married to Dr. Jordan Gularek, Danielle Chudolij, Evan Carling, Elizabeth Carling, Joshua Carling, and Adam Carling. She was also a proud great-grandmother to Bowen, Harrison, and Kennedy Gularek.

Glenda was born and raised in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, England, as one of ten children. She remained there until she immigrated to the United States, just before her nineteenth birthday. Only two days after her birthday, she married her love, Harold, whom she had met while he served in England with the United States Air Force. Their wedding day couldn’t have come soon enough for the both of them. Together, they raised their family in East Freetown in a home that was built by Harold’s parents, where Glenda lived the rest of her life.

Glenda was an avid gardener who loved to spend time outside tending to her sprawling gardens, numerous hanging flower baskets, and koi pond. It always gave her great joy to watch the cardinals and blue birds outside her window along with the pesky, if not entertaining, acrobatic squirrels. There wasn’t a plant she couldn’t revive, and she was always the go-to person when a green thumb was in need.

Her greatest joy in this world was her family. Glenda was a natural-born caregiver and would light up when she spent time playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Nothing gave her greater pleasure. She also dearly loved her late pets, Rex, Mog, and Baxter, as well as her grand-kitties, Teddie and Tobey.

When she wasn’t in the gardens, she could be found sewing, knitting, cleaning, or watching her favorite guilty pleasure TV shows, 90 Day Fiancé, Judge Judy, and RuPaul’s Drag Race. Glenda was also a voracious reader of historical fiction and nonfiction. She will be remembered for her quick wit, sense of humor, and overflowing love, strength, kindness, tenacity, and generosity.

In keeping with her nature, funeral services are private and for immediate family only.
